Posted by Julie Ortolon on September 12, 2014 As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve decided to give the Pearl Island Trilogy a fresh new look. When I first released these stories as ebooks, I was limited to stock art. Finding images that worked was very difficult. I was also trying to stick with a look that was similar to the original print edition published by St. Martin’s Press. I think they turned out well. Print Editions, Audiobooks, and A New Release Means Time for a Change For the past year, I’ve been working on a new book for this popular series about the spirited St. Claire siblings opening a B&B on an island near Galveston. I’ve also been producing all three original titles and the new title, Lie to Me, as audiobooks and print books. I couldn’t use the original covers for a print edition because of the low resolution of the images. Besides, times have changed. Today, it’s much easier to get exclusive rights to custom images. I decided to work with a design team and come up with a fresh new look for the whole series. The New Covers, Coming September 24th Here are the new covers for the print editions, ebooks, and audiobooks. If all goes well, and I’m working like crazy to make sure it does, all this will go live on September 24. That’s less than two weeks from today. Yikes! Cover Reveal for the New Title! Now for the most exciting news: Here’s the cover for the new title, Lie to Me, book 4 in the series. I think it’s gorgeous. The pose conveys the emotion and sizzle of the story, but the color palette keeps it light and fun. About Lie to Me the Story Those of you who read Book 2 in the series, Lead Me On, have already met the heroine of Lie to Me. Chloe was Scott’s twelve-year-old niece. Well, the spunky tomboy is all grown up and ready for her own romance. Enter Luc Renard, the founder of a computer gaming company who had a painful crush on Chloe back in school, before he transformed his outer self from geeky to gorgeous. The fun part of having a hero who’s into gaming is it let me sprinkle in little bits of pirates and knights even though the story is firmly a contemporary romance. (Excerpt coming soon to my website.) Release Dates The ebook and print editions of Lie to Me go On Sale September 24. New ebook covers, print editions, and audiobook for Falling for You, Lead Me On, and Don’t Tempt Me also go ON SALE September 24. Audiobook of Lie to Me coming in October! Want to pre-order? Please follow me on my Facebook Page and Twitter, where I will be posting news about availability as things unfold. So, let me know, how excited are you to have a new book set on Pearl Island? Categories: Uncategorized | No comments Pearl Island Gets a New Look Posted by Julie Ortolon on June 17, 2014 I have great news for fans of the Pearl Island series. I’m finishing up a new story, Lie to Me, which will be Book 4 in this popular series about the colorful St. Claire siblings who run a bed and breakfast in Galveston, Texas. In honor of the new release, I’ve decided to give the whole series a fresh new look. Here are the current ebook covers. I really do love them, but it’s time for a change. Not only will there be a brand new story, the whole series will soon be available as trade-size paperbacks and in audiobooks. The Original Ebook Covers for the Pearl Island Series Learn More and Read Excerpts Going with Exclusive Images Another reason for the change is that I used stock art on the original covers. I’ve been fortunate that the images I chose haven’t shown up on numerous other covers, but I don’t want to risk that with the new covers. So, I hired Jimmy Thomas with Romance Novel Covers to do custom photos with exclusive use rights for the new covers. I filled out an extensive questionnaire describing exactly what I wanted for each shot. The next step was picking which female model I wanted to be in each shot with Jimmy. I had no idea going in how time-intensive that was going to be. Jimmy sent links for numerous model portfolios. We spent weeks going back and forth until we finally had the models for the shots. Choosing the Final Image Now comes the fun part! The shoots are done and Jimmy has started sending proofs for me to pick which image I want for each cover. First up is the new book, Lie to Me. Keep in mind, these are proofs. In the final image, my hero will have blond hair. (Yes, they can do that.) Votes, Please! Which photo do you like better for the cover for Lie to Me? Not just indie ebook publishing, but audiobook creation, print on demand, and foreign markets. The merchandisers were there in force, talking directly with the authors about platforms they provide to help authors reach new audiences. Most gratifying of all, for me, was seeing how many authors had taken the “lifeboat” concept that was presented at last year’s conference and run with it. The Lifeboat Approach to Promoting eBooks At the 2012 conference in White Plains, I participated in a panel with several other authors, talking about how we’d banded together, rowing in unison like a lifeboat team, to increase sales for all of us. Our primary method for achieving this goal was cross-promoting via social media. W...
